Job
analysis is the cornerstone of competency modeling programs and
is often the best approach for jobs that are continuously changing.

Job analysis
is often used to develop competency models for organizations. Generally,
competency modeling involves:
- The identification
of key business imperatives or challenges
- Generation
of a list of personal competencies needed by employees at all
levels of the organization to successfully address these challenges.
Standard job
analysis techniques, such as focus group interviews or questionnaires
can be used to generate and review the list of competencies and
the behaviors that reflect demonstration of successful performance
of each competency.
